Using chatGPT

Introduction

I have already posted a few pages that outline definitions and descriptions of some aspects of chatGPT and AI in general. What I am posting here is a couple of examples of what I did with it!

I wanted to create something useful for my 7 year old daughter and 4 year old son to do on one of their days off! To check on their progress and motivation and to see how accurate chatGPT might be.

I asked two very simple questions: 1 maths worksheet for a 7 year old and 2 maths worksheet for a 4 year old. I could have stated gender, nationality, interests and hobbies since prompt engineering teaches us that such additional elements might be useful for chatGPT if not for us!

Editing

I got what I think are good results and I will also say that I asked for English language and Logic worksheets too, appropriate for the ages of the children.

In every case I needed to edit what I got for various reasons including my need to enhance the number of questions or eliminate questions that I didn't like. Generally, I was happy with what I got.

Follow up Questions

I had some follow up questions, for example: give me the Excel formula to generate questions like the following where the second number is always less than the first number

  • a) 5 + 3 =
  • b) 7 + 2 =
  • c) 4 + 6 =
  • d) 8 + 1 =
  • e) 3 + 9 =

and ...

To generate questions where the second number is always less than the first number, such as "5 + 3 =", "7 + 2 =", etc., you can use the following Excel formula

I did this so that I could create my own question banks/worksheets in Excel for the future

Other Ages

I asked chatGPT to create worksheets for ages 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 so that I could step backwards and forwards if I felt it appropriate.

Example Worksheets

Age 7

Age 4

Why I Had to Edit

I have already mentioned editing but I thought it would be useful for you to see in more detail what that meant. What follows is the original output for a maths worksheet for a four year old ... I needed to source and add the images and so on and that took time.

Conclusions

That is just some insight into what are probably bare bones examples of creating worksheets for children using chatGPT. I have not explored other options but I am sure there are other chatGPT offerings now that can cut out some of the editing work that I felt I had to do.

Creating the Excel formulations for some of the questions is, however, a real boon and a time savers since I can generate an infinite number of questions using them AND I am guaranteed to have all of the correct answers, too!
